We are deeply disturbed by the racist acts of violence this week in Georgia. EcoRise stands in solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander colleagues, teachers, and students as we grieve the loss of Daoyou Feng, Delaina Yaun, Paul Andre Michel, Xiaojie Tan, and other victims of this horrific act.
This violence follows years of increased hatred and bigotry specifically directed toward Asian Americans and people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, resulting in harassment, attacks, and trauma in small and large communities across the country.
We must not remain silent in the face of injustice, for silence creates conditions for perpetuating injustice and violence.
We are committed to advocating for the acknowledgment of centuries of oppression and violence directed at Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders at all levels of society. We are committed to disrupting the racist narrative that aims to reduce diverse communities of Asian Americans into a single entity. We are committed to elevating the voices of our Asian American teachers and students.
