Guardians of the Greens

Overview

Students at the Academy for Young Writers in Brooklyn, NY analyzed the nutritional value of their school-provided lunches and realized not enough vegetables were being offered. They applied for an Eco-Audit Grant to supplement the hydroponic vegetable garden the school already had by creating mini-garden beds for each classroom. This project will help the school grow 13,000 pounds of lettuce through hydroponics and improve access to healthy food options at school and the surrounding community.
